Indianapolis Primary Election 2025: Key Races, Candidates, and Voting Information

INDIANAPOLIS — The 2025 Indianapolis primary election, scheduled for May 6, features contested races for City-County Council seats in several districts, along with Democratic and Republican primary contests for Marion County Sheriff, Clerk, and Assessor. Here's what voters need to know.

City-County Council Races

The most competitive primary contests are in Council Districts 4, 12, 17, and 22, where multiple candidates are competing in Democratic primaries that will effectively determine the general election winners in heavily partisan districts. Key issues in these races include affordable housing policy, public safety investment, road infrastructure, and transit expansion.

In District 17, covering portions of the near-east side and Irvington, incumbent Democrat Councilmember Patricia Davis faces a challenge from community organizer Marcus Webb, who is running on a platform of stronger tenant protections and more aggressive city investment in neighborhood-level affordable housing. Davis has emphasized her record on infrastructure investment and her effectiveness working with the mayor's office.
